Justine Fisher
Barrister, Solicitor and Principal

Justine Fisher is the Director and Principal of Fisher Legal with more than 32 years of experience as a Barrister and Solicitor. Justine has chosen to practice exclusively in the area of criminal defence. Her passion is criminal defence.

Justine's experience is extensive.

Over 32 years she has represented accused persons almost exclusively in the role as lead Counsel in all jurisdictions - District and Supreme Courts as well as summary jurisdictions.

Justine has appeared as lead Counsel in respect of many significant trials - jury trials and otherwise. She has successfully defended murder, manslaughter, importation cases, large scale drug prosecutions, sexual assault cases (historical and otherwise), cases involving allegations of violence, serious road traffic accidents involving death and otherwise,  multiple charge and offender cases, cases involving high profile attention - all the way through to confiscation proceedings, contested restraining order proceedings and all manner of defended prosecutions.

Although Justine retains her role as Solicitor, she practices primarily in her role as a Barrister. This enables her to follow the team handling of your defence closely from the beginning all the way through to your trial - should a trial be necessary.

Justine established the firm in 1994. She did so as a result of her desire to exclusively dedicate her experience to this area of law. Expanding her team has enabled us to offer a more comprehensive and seamless defence.

In terms of her academic background, Justine has a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Australia. She was admitted as a practitioner to the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 1989 since then dedicating her experience to defence.

Although Justine is tough, experienced and tenacious in the Court environment, she is committed to providing a compassionate service to her clients. She has an excellent track record with her loyal clientele being indicative of her commitment to defence continually demonstrated over the last 32 years.

Monica Snowball
Barrister and Solicitor

Fisher Legal was privileged to welcome Monica to join its team in 2021. Monica is a passionate criminal defence lawyer with broad local and international experience.

Monica’s academic accomplishments include a Bachelor of Laws from Murdoch University in 2011 and a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the Australian National University in 2012 with her admission to practice following in 2013.

Post admission, whilst Monica enjoys experience within a number of areas – family law, regulatory law, restraining order and criminal injuries compensation - Monica’s passions lie in criminal defence. Her experience within this area is also broad with Monica having practiced in a range of criminal defence settings. Her experience reflects her passion for assisting more vulnerable members of the community.

As well as practicing within the field of criminal law locally, Monica also brings international experience. In 2018 Monica practiced in London in the field of Healthcare Regulation – both for Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the General Chiropractic Council (GCC) and the General Dental Council (GDC). All of these roles involved protecting members of the public from registrants where allegations of misconduct were involved.

Melissa Louw
Barrister and Solicitor

Melissa Louw joined the Fisher Legal team in October 2021 bringing with her a background of over 17 years’ experience exclusively defending crime. Criminal defence is her passion.

Melissa obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Western Australia in 2004 and was admitted to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2005. She also received a Bachelor of Arts in 2001 focusing in part on political science.

Having a wealth of advocacy experience both within the Perth area and regional Western Australia in all jurisdictions, Melissa is an asset to us and the Kimberley area. Over the years she has conducted numerous jury trials and trials and hearings before Magistrates in respect of criminal allegations of all levels of seriousness.  Her understanding of the difficulties facing our clients matches her passion for defence.

Melissa loves the Kimberley and so has made it her home. Given her ability and committment to the area, it follows that she was a natural choice to take on the role of Managing Solicitor of Fisher Legal Kimberley. The feedback that we are seeing is that she is a popular local choice, is in demand and is producing great results for our clients.

Melissa offers an unmatched local exclusive criminal defence service to the area. Although based in Broome Melissa travels to the East Kimberley and the Pilbara regions WA as part of her work for the regional Fisher Legal office. Her local knowledge, past experience in both the public and private sectors brings an advantage to our regional Kimberley clients as well as to our Perth office.

Our long established Perth practice (established 1994) also provides ongoing support to our regional office and so we work closely with Melissa. This gives Melissa and you access to more resources than might otherwise be the case - access to Perth based experts, Juniors, support staff, additional Counsel if required. It also gives our Perth office access to Melissa's knowledge and experience.
